Reproductive Health Advisory Group (RHAG)

Date of establishment: 01 October 2010

Purpose: To support the development and implementation of policies and strategies of the Government of Vietnam to develop the reproductive health sub-sector and to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of development assistance to the reproductive health sub- sector in Viet Nam.

Objectives: to contribute to:

• The Comprehensive Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy;

• The Millennium Development Goals/ICPD Program of Action;

• The National Health Strategy (2011-2020) and Five Year Health Plan (2011-2015);

• The National Population and Reproductive Health Strategy (2011-2020), Five Year Action Plans on Pop/RH including National Safe Motherhood Master Plan, National Adolescent Action Plan;

• The National HIV Strategy. 

Structure: It is chaired by the Maternal and Child Health Department (MCHD) with the participation of the General Administration of Population and Family Planning (GAPFP) where relevant. The group has a Secretariat to carry out logistical duties for the TWG. It receives no funding for operation.

Meeting frequency: The TWG had organized quarterly meetings during its operation but since 2014 they changed to meeting to once every six months in order to fit with real needs and schedule of TWG members.

Contribution: The meetings of RHAG often focus on sharing information and discussing policies on health care for poor ethnic minority women in disadvantaged areas, adolescent health, HIV transmission from mother to child prevention, and discussing the development of the Population Law.
