Nutrition

Date of establishment: 02 July 2015

Purpose: To support in developing and implementing strategies and working plans of MOH and the Government on nutrition in the general health sector plan; to support the development and implementation of effective nutrition intervention programs in Vietnam; and to enhance cooperation and coordination of nutrition activities of different implementers in Vietnam.

Structure: The TWG was hosted by the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) with strong support from UNICEF. It has more than 20 organizations as members including  FAO, WHO, World Bank, international NGOs (HKI, World Vision, FHI, A&T, Plan International, Save the Children, CARE, GAIN and so on).

Meeting frequency: This is one of the most active TWGs in HPG with periodical meeting (once every two months). The first meeting of the official TWGN under HPG was conducted on 24 September 2015, but is the 43rd meeting of the working group since its establishment in 2010. The group has a Secretariat (two NIN officials and one UNICEF expert) to carry out logistical duties for the TWG and linking TWG members. It receives no official funding for operation but has been receiving strong support from UNICEF.

Contribution: The TWGN has made significant contribution in community nutrition and emergency nutrition activities (in drought, flood, etc) through promoting the participation of TWG members, the development of evidence-based nutrition strategies and action-plans (National Nutrition Strategy 2011-2020 with vision to 2030, the mid-term National Nutrition Strategy until 2020 evaluation, Decree 1000/ND-CP dated 06 November 2014 on the business and usage of nutrition products form children), and sharing of updated information on nutrition activities and programs to TWG members.
