Overview of INGO support to Viet Nam’s health sector at central and provincial level

On 13 November 2014, the Ministry of Health held a meeting with International Non-governmental Organizations (INGOs) working in the health sector. This is the 3rd time this forum has been organized to promote cooperation and information sharing between the two sides.

The meeting was chaired by Prof.Dr. Le Quang Cuong, Vice Minister of Health; co-chaired by Ms. Dorothy Leab, AMP’s Country Director in Vietnam and Dr. Tran Thi Giang Huong, International Cooperation Department’s Director General. The meeting welcomed the participation of nearly 200 participants from the Ministry of Health, units under the MOH, provincial Departments of Health, INGOs, bilateral cooperation organizations, donor representatives (USAID) and PACCOM as legal managing agency of INGOs in Vietnam.

In the morning, the meeting presented an overview on INGO support to Viet Nam’s health sector from various angles with presentations from PACCOM, ICD, National Institute Of Hygiene And Epidemiology, Da Nang Department of Health and Central Eye Hospital as Governmental side; and USAID, AMP, Pathfinder as INGO and donor side. Meanwhile, the whole afternoon session was allocated for detailed discussion on two key issues: (1) Support of INGO on VHPD implementation, and (2) Mechanisms for strengthening collaborative cooperation between INGOs, MoH, departments of health, and other DPs.
